Local Hands, Lasting Homes
Our home-building projects in India are overseen by Fr. Nithiya Sagayam, a Catholic Franciscan priest who has dedicated his life to serving Dalit communities and other vulnerable families throughout Tamil Nadu.
Families are selected to receive homes based on need, with particular consideration given to widows, people living with disabilities, and those facing severe economic hardship. Fr. Nithiya works closely with local communities to identify families for whom safe and stable housing can make a lasting difference.
In 2023, Fr. Nithiya Sagayam received the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Lifetime Achievement Award, named in honor of India’s former prime minister. His work has included advocacy for women, children, rural communities, social justice, human rights, interreligious dialogue, and global peace.
Fr. Nithiya holds master’s degrees in Gandhian philosophy and human rights, an M.Phil. in peace studies, and a Ph.D. in interreligious relations.
